Walk Kruisvest Bruges

The section of the 1297 Bruges ramparts situated between the Dampoort and the Kruispoort is known as the Kruisvest; it takes its name from the Kruispoort and the municipality of Sint-Kruis, with which it forms a boundary.

The stretch from the Kruispoort to the Dampoort consists of a wide promenade atop the former fortifications. Four old windmills stand here: the Sint-Janshuismolen, the Koeleweimolen, the Bonne-Chièremolen, and the Nieuwe Papegaai. The Sint-Janshuismolen and the Koeleweimolen remain in working order.

Running alongside is a street of the same name, which extends from the Kruispoort to Peterseliestraat and serves a small number of houses. Also located along this street are the garden of the Saint George Guild, the garden and birthplace of Guido Gezelle, and the garden wall of the Saint Sebastian Archers’ Guild.
